Short description of the course

  • Kids’Skills is a practical, step-by-step solution-focused method for helping children of all ages to overcome emotional and behavioural problems.
  • The method was originally developed 20 years ago in Finland by a group of therapists and special education teachers led by Ben Furman. Over the years the method has become increasingly popular and is now used in many countries around the world.
  • The core principle of Kids’Skills is that whatever problem a child has, there’s always a skill they can learn that will help them conquer it with the support of their family and friends.
  • Originally developed as a tool for professionals working with children, the simplicity and safety of the approach allows also parents, or grandparents, to use it at home with their own children.
  • Kids’Skills is geared towards children aged 3-12 years but the basic concepts are also well suited to helping teenagers and even adults to overcome any kind of bad habits, anxieties and behavioural as well as emotional problems.

Topics covered:

  • Background – what is solution-focused psychology?
  • How to turn problems into skills that children can learn
  • How to make learning skills fun for children
  • How to use Kids’Skills with groups of children
  • How to engage friends and other members of the child’s social network
  • How to build collaboration with the parents

What you will learn?

You will learn, through stories and practical exercises, how to use the Kids’Skills method with children of all ages.
